Destructor HMS Eridge

El HMS Eridge era un destructor de la clase Hunt que entró en servicio en 1940 prestando sus servicios durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Tenía un desplazamiento a máxima carga de 1.430 toneladas con una tripulación de 164 hombres. Su armamento lo componían 6 cañones QF 4 inch Mk XVI (montajes dobles), 4 QF 2 pdr Mk VIII, 2 cañones antiaéreos Oerlikon de 20 mm y 110 cargas de profundidad para dos lanzadores de tres rampas.

El 29 de mayo de 1942, junto con el HMS Hero y HMS Hurworth, participó en el hundimiento del U-568 al noroeste de Tobruk. El 29 de agosto, junto a otras unidades de superficie, en el bombardeo de las posiciones del Eje en El Daba (Egipto). Durante esta acción fue alcanzado por un torpedo lanzado desde la torpedera italiana MTSM-228 que le provocó daños importantes y cinco muertos entre la tripulación. El HMS Aldenham remolcó al dañado HMS Eridge a Alejandría siendo utilizado como barco base hasta el final de la contienda. Finalmente fue vendido para desguace en octubre de 1946.

The HMS Eridge was a Hunt class destroyer that entered service in 1940 to provide its services during World War II. I had a full load displacement of 1,430 tons with a crew of 164 men. Its armament was made up 6 guns QF 4 inch Mk XVI (twin mounts), 4 QF 2 pdr Mk VIII, 2 Oerlikon anti-aircraft guns of 20 mm and 110 depth charges, 2 throwers, 3 racks.

The May 29, 1942, together with HMS Hero and HMS Hurworth, participated in the sinking of U-568 northwest of Tobruk. On August 29, along with other surface units in the bombing of the Axis positions in El Daba (Egypt). During this action he was hit by a torpedo from the Italian torpedo MTSM-228 that caused major damage and five deaths among the crew. The towed the damaged HMS Eridge Alexandria boat being used as base to the end of the war. It was finally sold for scrap in October 1946.
