El
blindado de seguridad Scout car Ford S1 fue desarrollado para proporcionar un
vehículo ligero que pudiera patrullar instalaciones y aeródromos en labores de
patrullaje y seguridad en retaguardia. Debido a la escasa capacidad industrial
de Australia durante la II Guerra Mundial originó este blindado prácticamente
artesanal que se construyó sobre el bastidor de un camión comercial de Ford.
El
Scout car Ford S1 fue diseñado en 1942 por Ford Australia que completó un total
de 40 vehículos de este tipo. El conjunto alcanzaba un peso final de tan solo 4
toneladas con un blindaje de 6 mm y una tripulación de cinco hombres
(comandante, conductor y tres artilleros). Su armamento principal consistía en
una ametralladora pesada Browning M2HB de 12´7 mm y dos Browning M1917A1 de
7´62 mm. Disponía de un motor Ford V8 de 95 hp con una suspensión 4x2 o 4x4 que
mejoraba su movilidad en terreno desigual.

The armored car security Scout
Ford S1 was
developed to provide a light vehicle that could patrol installations
