Logró 93 victorias, 90 de ellas en el Frente del Oeste incluyendo la destrucción de 12 bombarderos pesados. Su primera victoria fue sobre un caza francés Bloch 152 el 14 de mayo de 1940 y a finales de año ya sumaba 20 victorias. En julio de 1941 logró derribar 15 aparatos de la RAF, todos ellos cazas Spitfire, 4 el día 4, 3 el día 8 y nada menos que 6 el día 9. El 19 de agosto de 1942 sobre Dieppe derribó 5 Spitfire alcanzado la victoria número 70 y el 11 de enero de 1944 abatió a tres B-17 siendo sus victorias 88, 89 y 90. El 11 de febrero fue trasladado al Frente del Este con la IV./JG 54 pronto derribó tres aparatos soviéticos pero el 25 de febrero su Bf 109 G-6 (WNr. 411 675) fue derribado por un caza soviético sobre Narva. Achieved 93 victories, 90 of them in the face of the West including the destruction of 12 heavy bombers.
