In 1921 was launched the ship "Santa Fe", a name alluding to the difficult days that will live after the end of the First World War. The country was paralyzed by the huge reparations after the war but was moving slowly toward recovery. The transition from the "Santa Fe" ran between the lands of America and the Baltic Sea, a contrast of life during the days of peace.

In October 1939 the ship was in South America and was seized at the outbreak of war. French crew happened to be under the name "San Andreas" but his ordeal under another flag would not last long because in 1940 France was defeated Navy remained under Vichy France. When Vichy France was invaded on "San Andreas" was returned to its original owners recover their original name.

In 1943 the "Santa Fe" was part of the Black Sea fleet to provide supplies to the Wehrmacht operating in the area. On November 23, 1943 was part of Wotan convoy, heading to Sebastopol. The unit was protected by the destroyer "Marsati" and the minesweeper "Lola" and "Admiral Murgescu", all Romanians, plus R-165 units, R-197 and R-209. On board the "Santa Fe" traveled 1278 tons of supplies on which is gasoline, ammunition, two planes, 10 StuG III and 2 Jagdpanzer. These vehicles were intended for Sturmgeschütz Abt. 191

Around 5 am the cargo hold was shaken by a violent explosion, probably caused by a torpedo attack. Half an hour later the flames had taken hold of the ship causing a new explosion that split the ship sank shortly after. 16 of his 28 crew members disappeared forever swallowed by the flames and waves. The Germans recorded the coordinates mentioned as the place of sinking (45'05° north 33.16° east), but subsequent investigations have shown that they were mistaken (46'06º north 33° east).

The wreck is located only 21 meters deep. If the files are correct Wehrmacht inside were 12 assault guns in total, two of which have already been rescued, the one presented in this issue and one with mantalete Saukopf it was sold to Lubuskie Museum in Poland. But the rivalry has grown between the two partners involved in the rescue work, and Panko Karatov threaten the continuity of work in Santa Fe. Besides this, the main backer of the company has broken and is considering the possibility of rescuing two StuG III putting one over the sale to cover costs.

On June 11, 1943 389th Bombardment Group arrived (Heavy), assigned to 2nd Combat Bombardment Wing which was distinctive in a circle C in the drift. Squadrons assigned were as follows; 564th Bomb Squadron (I), 565th Bomb Squadron (EE), 566th Bomb Squadron (RR), 567th Bomb Squadron (HP) flying aboard the B-24. Participated in all major operations of 1944 and 1945, since the bombing of strategic targets in France to support the crossing of the Rhine. In late April 1945 made his last combat mission returning to Southern California on May 30.

After returning to British hands and hold a unit of P-51 fighters, and by mid-1947, was entrusted to the RAF Technical Training Command. Following the downsizing of the RAF camp was closed in 1948. After suffering the abandonment of nearly 20 years, was sold in 1964.

Many of its buildings were used as homes awaiting new construction under the post-war program. RDC Henst Forehoe & used parts for storage in the late 50's and later was employed by Lotus for the manufacture and testing of vehicles (using their hangars and runways for testing). Of the buildings constructed on scattered sites little remains, the only real interesting site is a former gym converted into a chapel, recently restored by a group of volunteers and the chapel is private property. There are several reasons commemorative plate type, for the 389th Bomb 17 Group deceased who died on November 21, 1944 in a mid-air collision. A Memorial headstone in the cemetery of Hethel and honor of the 389th list is inside Hethel Church.

Fusil anticarro soviético PTRS-41

El azote de los Panzer.
Fusil anticarro Simonov PTRS-41

Its origin dates back to the period between the wars when he began experimenting with various anti-armor missiles portable use. The tests revealed that the projectile 12'7 mm (x108) was ineffective and the size was increased up to 14.5 mm which offered better performance of penetration.

Based on this projectile Soviet designers F. Degtiariov, with its famous PTRD and S.G. Simonov with the PTRS-41 is released to the design of these new weapons that might use the new shell of 14.5 mm. The PTRS-41 appeared in the summer of 1941 and was an effective feeder 5 cartridges that was inserted in the drawer mechanism being subjected to pressure by a pivoting deck. After firing the last of them was open the lock ready for the new magazine. Both models went into production and use in the Soviet Army against the German invasion of June.

A German soldier piles lot of PTRS-41 rifles captured

The PTRS was driving the gas through the trigger but it tended to jam when the gun was dirty due to soot produced by the detonation of the projectile. On the behavior of its armor-piercing projectile, BS-41, can be said that property had a good ballistics and was very effective in attacking some armored targets. These objectives were most German cars of the time and suffered so much at the hands of such weapons. The BS-41 reached an initial velocity of 990 m / s and could penetrate 40 mm of armor at 100 meters away.

The evidence polygons endorsed the work of Simonov and began production and mass distribution between the front units. The tanks and armored vehicles were not the only ones who suffered the scourge of PTRS-41 and that trucks and other vehicles were attacked with unshielded antitank this rifle. As the war progressed the armor of German tanks was increasing at the same time making useless the PTRS-41 to address them. The last point was weaker than the panzer was the space between the wheels and the superstructure was finally closed to the PTRS-41 with the addition of Schürzen (side plates).

With the rapid German advance into the Russian territory many of these weapons fell into German hands soon put them back in contention. Under German service was called Panzerbüchse 784(r), abbreviated; PzB 784(r). Between 1941 and 1942, 60,000 of these rifles manufactured anti-tank.

Soldados polacos en Sajonia, 2007

Großdubrau-Sdier, Sajonia (Alemania).

After agreeing everyone, including the mayor and the land owners could proceed with the work of recovery of remains. During the first day two soldiers were rescued and found a third had to be left in place with the arrival of the night.

The next day a mini excavator was used early in the morning in the work by detecting the burial of a fourth soldier. In two days of work had recovered the remains of four soldiers, but only found two Russian helmets as a reference for identification or equipment or markings.

Due to the special nature of future construction, a kindergarten, we proceeded to a thorough combing the field by the KBD in search of ammunition abandoned. It was in this work when new remains and with the help of another mini excavator. At a depth of 1.60 meters a ditch found the remains of three soldiers, Poles in this case because they were found with the remains of the Polish eagle.

As the power of the party's ambitions grew, the Luitpoldhain became too small. Thus, since early 1934, he commissioned architect Albert Speer his first major project to Hitler. Work began immediately, demolishing a tram station, a sports field and the tennis courts. With these demolitions the stadium was expanded third party, providing a space large enough for military exercises, parades and political meetings. The capacity was 400,000 people (four times the Santiago Bernabeu).

In July 1936 improved the appearance Zeppelinwiese ornamental covering the facade with the new platform, 25 meters high and 400 feet long, with marble. The back of the stage of speakers consisted of 170 stone columns. Throughout the stands were installed 34 towers with 6 flagpoles Nazis in each. The parade field surface was 295 by 265 meters.

The cathedral of light.

Give the fans the match to the dramatic effects, especially took care of the stadium lighting. In total there were 120 floodlights that illuminated the countryside and flags parade units. Other shining vertically to a height of 6,000 meters to be visible from a distance of 160 kilometers, in Frankfurt. To this was added the effect of 1,200 lights and 50 lights Kleig displaying a torrent of light that consumed 40,000 kilowatts in one afternoon.

The Zeppelinwiese, completed in 1937, as censers for fires that burned during ceremonies and its 40,000 oaks, ancient Germanic symbol of strength, in the thirties was the main center of Nazi meeting.

This is a good replica of PzKpfw V Panther Ausf A chassis built from a VT-55, a recovery vehicle has been paid in more than one occasion to carry out these conversions. This car has already been discussed in this blog, this is a conversion performed in Hungary but then was exported to America, Boston. This trip has been a great adventure because of the endless paperwork and other permits for the vehicle failed to reach its destination. This has become more expensive original price of the vehicle to give you an idea just export license costs $ 2,500.

Their sale is restricted only to the U.S. territory initially but can be sent anywhere in the world. The tower has electrically operated and is fully functional. Another highlight is the subject of the caterpillars that have performed well on asphalt, movable on the asphalt without suffering major damage. The gun does not have the drive but could be equipped with one of these systems without major complications.

The company selling it will perform a complete analysis of your engine to avoid problems in this regard. They also committed to the implementation of personalization, not very expensive so if the vehicle. The car weight amounts to only 26 tonnes (the original weighing 43-45).

For if anyone is interested the company behind the car can make custom replicas of Tiger I as well. The vehicle went on sale on ebay and after five bids has reached a final price of $ 235,000.

Stoyan Stoyanov with 14 wins (at least 3 B-24 and 3 P-38)

His father died in the fighting during the First Balkan War and as a result was accepted into the school for war orphans in Varna, would otherwise have been impossible as it was from a poor family.
