El hecho sucedió en el otoño de 1940 y provocó que todos los pilotos del JG 53 Pik-As eliminasen las svásticas de sus Messerschmitt. Los orígenes hay que buscarlos sin embargo mucho más atrás en el tiempo. El Major Hans-Jurgen von Cramon-Taubadel estaba casado con una judía y cuando ascendió al puesto de Geschwader Kommodore del JG 53 llamó la atención de Goering. Este, enfurecido por el hecho, ordenó a toda la unidad a quitar de sus aparatos el emblema del Pik-As y pintar una banda roja en toda la sección del motor como símbolo de vergüenza. Poco después de esto Taubadel fue relevado del mando de forma fulminante el 30 de septiembre de 1940 al tiempo que se les dio permiso para repintar su preciado emblema de unidad. Los pilotos, como señal de protesta, decidieron eliminar de sus aparatos la svástica que decoraba sus derivas. La propuesta se prolongó en el tiempo hasta la batalla de Inglaterra.

The incident occurred in the fall of 1940 and caused all the pilots of JG 53 Pik-As the swastikas eliminated their Messerschmitt. The origins date back yet further back in time. The Major Hans-Jurgen von Cramon-Taubadel was married to a Jew and when he ascended to the position of the JG 53 Geschwader Kommodore caught the attention of Goering. This, enraged by the fact, ordered the entire unit to be removed from their units, the emblem of Pik-As and paint a red band across the motor section as a symbol of shame. Shortly after this Taubadel was relieved of command in a while lightning on September 30, 1940 gave them permission to repaint their precious symbol of unity. The pilots, as a sign of protest, decided to remove the swastika of its devices that decorated their derivatives. The proposal was extended in time to the Battle of Britain.
