Now I present to you one of the three remaining Tiger I in France today. Curious feature of these cars is that their serial numbers are consecutive. The Tiger I (Wk.Nr. 251 114) is in the Tank Museum Saumur and the Tiger I (Wk.Nr. 251,113) in the village of Vimoutiers in Normandy. Both were made in May 1944 and assigned to the 102nd SS. Sch. Pz. Abt. The Tiger 251 113 withdrew from Normandy in late August, but his crew had to abandon due to lack of fuel on the road N 179, which leads from Lisieux to Alencon, in the vicinity of that Vimoutiers. However, before abandoning the vehicle crew allies placed explosive charges detonating the engine and tower afterwards. The battle tank of 56 tonnes stood in the middle of the road along with three others and some PzKpfw IV Tiger. When American troops reached the place and destroyed the Tiger took to the ditch along with the rest of the material left. Other vehicles were removed a little beyond being forgotten and being the site of games for local children for 30 long years.

The debate broke out in 1975 what to do with the old Tiger abandoned, whether or otherwise keep scrapping. Fortunately it was decided to keep the vehicle in memory of those killed in the battle of the Falaise pocket of restoring and repainting the vehicle. Since 1983 the vehicle has been exposed in the town of Vimoutiers.
