Aviación de caza italiana (V)

Fiat G.55 Centauro



El Fiat G.55 Centauro fue, potencialmente, el mejor caza italiano de la contienda. Estaba basado en el primer caza monoplano de la Fiat, el G.50 Frenccia que no resultó un éxito. El motor radial del G.50 fue reemplazado por el Daimler-Benz DB 605 alemán fabricado con licencia, esta nueva planta motriz transformó las prestaciones del avión hciéndolo veloz y maniobrable. Sólo 31 ejemplares prestaban servicio en el momento del Armisticio italiano, aunque su producción continuó hasta completar 274 aparatos. Los G.55 tomaron parte en la defensa de Roma y sirvieron en número limitado hasta el final de la guerra con las fuerzas cobeligerantes de la Regia Aeronautica. Después de la guerra se exportaron algunos ejemplares.

The Fiat G.55 Centauro was potentially the best Italian fighter of the war. Was based on the first monoplane fighter the Fiat, the G.50 Frenccia was not a success. G.50 radial engine was replaced by the Daimler-Benz DB 605 German manufactured under license, this new powerplant performance of the aircraft became hciéndolo fast and maneuverable. Only 31 copies currently serving in the Italian Armistice, although production continued until completing 274 units. The G.55 took part in the defense of Rome and served in limited numbers until the end of the war with the forces co-belligerents of the Regia Aeronautica. After the war, some specimens were exported.
