Los mejores capitanes de los Lobos Grises



Durante la II Guerra Mundial Alemania formó un formidable núcleo de capitanes de submarino que lograron grandes logros con sus Lobos Grises. En la siguiente lista se enumeran los diez mejores capitanes de U-Boot atendiendo a los hundimientos logrados. Entre estos diez capitanes lograron hundir 1.980.589 de tonelaje aliado en 348 barcos. Comenzamos en esta primera entrega del 10 al 6…

10.- Korvettenkapitan Heinrich Bleichrodt.



Nació  el 21 de octubre de 1909 en Berga, Kyffhausser. Durante su servicio estuvo al mando del U-48 y el U-109. Fue el tercer más exitoso capitán de los mejores submarinos alemanes, el U-48. Durante su primera patrulla en el mar logró hundir 8 barcos enemigos, incluyendo al City of Baneres de 11.081 toneladas. En su siguiente patrulla logró echar a pique otros 7 barcos más, entre ellos al Port Gisborn de 10.000 toneladas.

Fue trasladado al U-109 con el que no logró ninguna victoria durante su primera misión en alta mar. En su segunda patrulla logró mejores resultados logrando hundir 5 barcos más. En vista de sus éxitos fue enviado a las costas norteamericanas dónde hundió durante su quinta patrulla al Tuscan Star que viajaba desde Liverpool a través del Canal de Panamá para llegar hasta Melbourne. El buque transportaba 11.000 toneladas de carne congelada.

En total Heinrich Bleichrodt hundió 28 buques con un registro total de 162.171 toneladas.

9.- Korvettenkapitan Heinrich Liebe



Nació en Gotha el 19 de enero de 1908. Estaba al mando del U-2 antes de estallar la guerra y fue instructor de los estudiantes de la primera escuela de U-Boot en Kiel. En 1938, el 24 de octubre, recibió el mando del U-38 en Kiel, que estaba en el mar cuando estalló la guerra.

Su mejor logro lo consiguió entre mayo y junio de 1941, tras repostar en alta mar logró hundir 8 barcos con un registro total de 47.279 toneladas frente al puerto de Freetown, en la costa occidental de África.

En total hundió 32 barcos con un registro total de 168.506 toneladas.

8.- Kapitan zur See Victor Schutze



Nació en Kiel el 16 de febrero de 1906 y fue el más viejo de los 10 experten del mar. Durante su carrera militar mandó dos submarinos, el U-25 y el U-103.

En las primeras fechas de la Batalla del Atlántico, al mando del U-25, logró hundir al buque francés Baulé de 5.874 toneladas el último día del mes de septiembre de 1939. Desde el 12 de enero al 13 de febrero de 1940 sumó otros 6 hundimientos añadiendo 27.000 toneladas a su cuenta.

En octubre de 1940 recibió un nuevo submarino, el U-103 y el día 9 de ese mismo mes disparó cuatro torpedos logrando hundir 3 barcos y dañando a un cuarto. Durante una patrulla entre abril y mayo de 1942 logró regresar a la base habiendo hundido 13 barcos más con un registro total de 65.172 toneladas.

Schutze murió el 23 de septiembre de 1950 .

7.- Kapitan zur See Karl - Friedrich Merten.



Nacido en Posen el 15 de agosto de 1908 presto sus servicios en el crucero Königsberg con el rango de teniente. Fue el oficial de artillería en el T157, mandó el buque de escolta F7 y fue Oficial de Entrenamiento de Cadetes en el crucero de entrenamiento Schleswig-Holstein.

En 1940 se presentó como voluntario para servir en los Lobos Grises embarcándose en el U-38, bajo el mando del experimentado capitán Liebe. El 11 de febrero de 1941 fue nombrado capitán del U-68 realizando cinco exitosas patrullas con él. Formó parte del equipo de rescate encargado de recoger a los supervivientes del Python y del corsario Atlantis.

Merten hundió 29 barcos en total con un registro de 180.869 toneladas.

Cuando regresó estuvo al mando de la 26 Flotilla de Submarinos en Pillau y luego pasó al frente de la 24 Flotilla de Submarinos en Mendel. Desde allí participó en la evacuación de los residentes de allí, 50.000 civiles y 6.000 soldados de las Juventudes Hitlerianas.

Fue detenido en Francia en octubre de 1948 pero como no se tenían pruebas contra él fue puesto en libertad en marzo de 1949.

6.- Fregattenkapitan Heinrich Lehmann – Willenbrock



Nació el 11 de diciembre de 1911. Fue capitán del U-96 durante 8 patrullas saliendo en su primera patrulla el 5 de diciembre de 1940 hundiendo 5 barcos, incluyendo al buque británico Pendrecht de 10.746 toneladas. En su siguiente patrulla, entre el 16 y 17 de enero de 1941 hundió otros dos buques británicos, el Oropesa y Almeda Star, ambos de 14.000 toneladas.

A lo largo de su servicio envió al fondo del mar 25 buques aliados con un registro total de 183.253 toneladas.

10 .- Korvettenkapitan Heinrich Bleichrodt.

6 .- Fregattenkapitan Heinrich Lehmann – Willenbrock

He was born on December 11, 1911. He was captain of the U-96 for 8 patrols out on his first patrol on December 5, 1940 sinking five ships, including the British ship of 10,746 tons Pendrecht.
