English version

This is the last of the Italian tank destroyers and emerged a requirement for the construction of a vehicle with better features. Otto attended the contest and Ansaldo with their projects. Otto's proposal of using a cannon Otgo 105/23 on the frame of a heavy truck P-40. For its part, Ansaldo M15/42 chassis preferred for its proposal. However Ansaldo surprised with the presentation of their prototype before the end date. It was in the center where da Studi Mottorizzazione but Otto still had presented its proposal on the drawing board with what was Ansaldo the contract.

The chassis of the new model of tank destroyers was broader than the previous M15/24 and armor plates were welded on the front unless they were bolted. When he was accepted was the official designation gives Semovente Bassotto 105/25 by the nickname (Sausage). He was subsequently appointed as M43 da 105/23. The main armament was modified since it replaced the original 105/23 105/25 had the best performance. Finally the project was accepted and the prototype was accepted in April 1943. The Army conducted an initial order of 200 vehicles that were subsequently increased to 454 but were never produced.

The tank destroyers continued with the same structure as previous models, M41 and M41 da da 75/34 75/18, although it kept the engine compartment housing a 15TB SPA which yielded 185 horsepower to move the vehicle. The superstructure was longer and reduced in height making it difficult for the enemy location. Its main armament was in the center of the vehicle assembly installed on a ball that gave him some money left and right. The glacis was rectangular and side skirts available Schürzen German style gave him some protection from flanking fire.

Occur before the Armistice only two groups of these Semoventes had reached operational units, Ariette II and Centaur, along with another small group of 30 vehicles built with the group Nettuno gunner defending Rome. As of September 26 of them were captured by the Germans received the designation M43 mit 105/25 StuG, 853 (i). These vehicles would soon see action in both Italy and the Balkans. For his part, RSI manufactured between 1943 and 1944 a batch of 117 vehicles.

  1. Buenas Javier.
