Se trataba de un Consolidated B-24 Liberator B-24D (25CO 41-24294). Fue construido en diciembre de 1942, en las factorías de Estados Unidos y tras pasar los exámenes de calidad fue enviado al frente Europeo. A su llegada fue asignado a la 9º Air Force el 1 de mayo de 1943, 376º BG, 512º BS.
El Squadron fue enviado a bombardear las instalaciones petrolíferas rumanas de Ploesti siendo derribado el 1 de agosto de 1943 sobre Ploesti. El ataque del Bf 109 G Hauptman W. Steinmann (I./JG 4) le causó graves daños en el morro y en los motores 3 y 4 cayendo, finalmente, a tierra.
