U-82


U-82



El U-82 era un submarino Type VIIc botado el 15 de marzo de 1941 y comisionado dos meses más tarde. Fue completado en los astilleros Vulkan Vegesack Werft, Bremen. Desde el inicio de sus acciones fue adscrito a la 3.U-Flottille, Kiel y en La Pallice como Ausbildungsboot y como Frontboot bajo el mando del OL Siegfried Rollmann.

Su primera patrulla comenzó el 11 de agosto de 1941 cuando abandonó el puerto de Trondheim con rumbo al Atlántico norte. Una vez llegado al suroeste de Islandia se unió a un grupo de U-Boot que patrullaban la zona en busca de barcos enemigos. El 27 de agosto se informó de la presencia del convoy HX145 que navegaba al sur de Islandia. Inmediatamente el U-82 junto con otros 10 U-Boot se dirigieron a la zona pero su búsqueda fue infructuosa. Al día siguiente el grupo se reorganizó formando el grupo Markgraf. El 4 de septiembre formaron una línea de patrulla orientada hacia el oeste de modo que los Aliados desviaron varios convoyes para evitar el encuentro con esta manada de lobos grises. Sin embargo el convoy SC42 no pudo ser desviado a tiempo debido al mar estado de la mar y finalmente fue localizado por el U-85 el 9 de septiembre. A la mañana siguiente un torpedo lanzado por el U-82 mandó al fondo del mar al carguero británico SS. Empire Hudson (7.465 toneladas). Lanzó otro torpedo contra el buque de escolta HMCS. Skeena pero erró el disparo. Al despuntar el alba del día 11 hundió con torpedos al buque cisterna británico MV. Bulysses (7.519tn) y al SS. Gypsum Queen (3.915tn) de la misma nacionalidad. Tan solo unas horas más tarde y en ataques sucesivos el exitoso U-82 aumentó su registro al hundir al carguero británico SS. Empire Crossbill (5.463tn) y dañó al sueco SS. Scania (1.980tn). este último sería rematado por el U-202 pocas horas más tarde. El ataque fue un éxito y el convoy perdió un total de 16 buques por la acción de los U-Boot alemanes finalizando la operación el 14 de septiembre. Cuatro días más tarde el U-82 alcanzó su nueva base, Lorient.

Tras un merecido periodo de descanso se hizo de nuevo a la mar el 14 de octubre de 1941 con rumbo al Atlántico norte. Durante su trayecto hacia la zona de operaciones fue desviado el día 21 para atacar al convoy SL89 que había sido localizado el día anterior por el U-84. Este no pudo atacar debido a que regresaba a su base cuando localizó al convoy. A última hora de la tarde de ese mismo día el U-82 interceptó al convoy al oeste de Fastnet aprestándose a atacarlo de inmediato. Lanzó varios torpedos logrando cobrarse dos víctimas; los cargueros británicos SS. Serbino (4.099tn) y SS. Treberbyn (5.218tn). El día 23 dio por terminado el ataque y continuó con su rumbo original para unirse al grupo Schlagetot. El 1 de noviembre el U-374 avistó al convoy SC52 y se envió a todo el grupo a interceptarlo, ahora bajo el nombre de Raubritter. Varios U-Boot, entre ellos el U-82, lanzaron un ataque. Dos días más tarde cinco buques fueron hundidos por la acción del U-202, U-203 y U-569. En la noche del 4 al 5 se perdió el contacto con el convoy evitando así más pérdidas para los mercantes aliados. Otro convoy, el ONS29, logró evitar a la manada y a pesar de que los U-Boot configuraron una línea de patrulla no se logró avistar ningún otro convoy. Finalmente el U-82 regresó a su base de partida el 19 de noviembre de 1941 sin contratiempos.


No fue hasta el 11 de enero de 1942 cuando el U-82 volvió a hacerse a la mar para operar en el área de Newfoundland. El día 22 hundió al buque cisterna británico MV. Athelcrown (11.999tn) y al día siguiente otro buque cisterna compartió el aciago destino del primero, el MV. Leiesten (6.118tn), esta vez noruego. El día 31 el U-82 localizó al pequeño convoy NA2, compuesto por dos mercantes y dos destructores de escolta. A última hora de la tarde lanzó un torpedo contra el destructor HMS. Belmont alcanzándolo y hundiéndolo en pocos minutos. El resto de buques lograron escapar de los U-Boot debido a su alta velocidad de navegación. El 6 de febrero el U-82 se encontraba ya de regreso a su base cuando avistó al convoy OS18 al noreste de las Azores. Mientras se aproximaba a él fue localizado por los buques de escolta que procedieron a atacarlo. Finalmente el U-82 fue hundido con cargas de profundidad lanzadas por el Sloop HMS. Rochester y la corbeta HMS. Tamarisk. Ninguno de sus 48 tripulantes logró sobrevivir al ataque.

En sus tres patrullas logró hundir 8 buques enemigos con un registro total de 51.859 toneladas, dañó otro buque más y hundió un destructor de 1.190 toneladas.
