El Valentine Mk.III disponía de un motor AEC de gasolina de 135 hp (Mk.I); posteriormente, se le instaló el AEC diesel de 131 hp o el GMC, también diesel, de 138 hp. A pesar de tener un peso ligero, 16-17 toneladas su escaso motor solo le permitía una velocidad de 24 Km/h. A pesar de sus dolencias se completaron más de 8.000 carros de este tipo.
