Submarino japonés I-55


El submarino japonés I-55 era un sumergible del tipo C, de la subclase C3, que fue construido durante la década de 1940. Esta subclase surgió a partir de la C2 incorporando menos tubos lanzatorpedos, un cañón de cubierta adicional y una planta motriz menos potente para ampliar su gama. El armamento estaba compuesto por 6 tubos lanzatorpedos de 533 mm con una dotación de 19 torpedos, 2 cañones antiaéreos de 14 mm y uno gemelo de 25 mm. Su desplazamiento era de 2.605 toneladas en superficie y 3.702 en navegación sumergida. Su autonomía era de 50.000 Km a una velocidad de 12 nudos. La tripulación estaba compuesta por 94 hombres.

El I-55 fue asignado a la defensa de las islas Marianas pero durante una misión de rescate del mando de la 1º Flota Aérea en Tinian fue localizado y hundido por los destructores USS Gilmer y USS William C. Miller el 14 de julio de 1944

The Japanese submarine I-55 was a submersible type C C3 subclass, which was built during the 1940s This subclass emerged from the C2 least torpedo tubes incorporating an additional gun deck and a powerplant less powerful to expand its range.
