Mk XVI
El
QF 4 inch (101.6 mm) era el montaje antiaéreo estándar de doble propósito
para todos los navíos de la Commonwealth. El Mk XVI venía a sustituir al
anterior QF 4 inch Mk V que estaba en servicio en la Royal Navy durante los
años finales de 1930 y principios de los años 40. Estos cañones se instalaban normalmente
en montajes dobles HA/LA Mk XIX aunque en las fragatas y corbetas australianas
estos montajes eran simples (Mk XX). Su vida operativa se prolongó hasta los
años cincuenta.
El
sistema permitía una elevación máxima de +80º y una depresión de -10º para
batir blancos muy próximos pudiendo utilizar proyectiles de alto explosivo de
15´88 Kg o SAP de 17´35 Kg. Los proyectiles podían alcanzar una velocidad de
salida de 811 m/s con un alcance efectivo de 15.000 metros.

The QF 4 inch (101.6 mm)
antiaircraft mount was dual-purpose standard
for all Commonwealth ships. The Mk XVI
came to replace the earlier QF 4 inch
Mk V which was in
service in the Royal Navy during the
final years of the 1930s and
early 40s. These guns were installed usually
in twin mounts HA/LA Mk XIX although Australian frigates and corvettes these assemblies were simple (Mk XX).
Its operating life lasted until the fifties.
The system allowed a maximum elevation of +80° and a depression of -10° to beat very close targets can use high explosive shells 15'88 Kg or SAP of 17'35 Kg. The shells could reach a muzzle velocity of 811 m/s with an effective range of 15,000 meters.
