Sturmgeschütz III Ausf D

El StuG III Ausf D resultó muy similar a la versión anterior, el Ausf C, pero con algunas modificaciones. La más importante fue el aumento de su blindaje frontal, aumentado a 50 mm, y una señal para llamar la atención del conductor del vehículo. Algunos de los Ausf D fueron construidos con un cajón blindado en el lado derecho, además del izquierdo de serie, para dar cabida a un equipo de radio adicional para funciones de mando. Este modelo vino a suplir algunas de las pérdidas sufridas a lo largo de 1941 ya que en este año se perdieron 105 StuG III, el resto fueron destinados a la creación de nuevos destacamentos como por el ejemplo el Abt. zbV. 288 (Destacamento para uso Especial 288). Un grupo de ellos fueron enviados al norte de África a principios de 1942

Su producción se prolongó desde mayo a septiembre de 1941 completándose un total de 150 vehículos. El vehículo estaba equipado con un motor Maybach HL120TRM de 320 hp que le permitía desarrollar 40 Km/h en carretera con una autonomía de 160 Km.

The StuG III Ausf D was very similar to the previous version, the Ausf C, but with some modifications.
